Immediate Release: April 2, 2010 MONROE, La. -- University of Louisiana at Monroe (10-16) scored runs in six of eight innings and defeated Binghamton (6-12) 15-3 in the first of a three-game set Friday night from Warhawk Field. ULM jumped on top 3-0 with a two-out rally in the second inning. After its first two hitters were retired, ULM produced a walk and three straight run-scoring singles. One inning later, the Warhawks plated three more runs on only two hits to build a 6-0 cushion. The hosts benefited from two hit batters and a walk from junior ace James Giulietti (2-2), who struggled for the first time this spring after entering the game with a stingy 1.19 ERA. The Bearcats got three runs back on four hits in the fourth. Sophomore first baseman Dave Ciocchi rapped a two-run double and senior DH Joe Charron added an RBI double with one out before ULM shut the door with runners on second and third with an infield pop-up and strikeout. ULM made it 7-3 with a run on two hits in the bottom of the fourth and added a run without the benefit of a hit in the fifth and another on two hits and an error in the sixth for a 9-3 cushion. The Warhawks then blew it open with six runs in the eighth. No Bearcat had more than one hit, BU struck out 10 times (four looking) and committed a season-high five errors in the field. The teams play a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday. |
