Box Score

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Binghamton (4-11) battled back from a 4-0 hole but host New Mexico (6-15) scored the winning run on an eighth-inning double to pull out a 5-4 win Wednesday afternoon from Isotopes Park. Each team collected 11 hits.

New Mexico built a 4-0 lead with single runs in the second and third innings and two runs in the fourth. But the Bearcats battled back with two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

With two out in the fifth, freshman second baseman Daniel Nevares doubled to right field. Freshman shortstop John Howell followed with an RBI double down the right field line, scoring Nevares. Freshman center fielder Bill Beresziewicz then plated Howell with an RBI single.

In the sixth, junior first baseman Dave Ciocchi and senior left fielder Corey Taylor led off with back-to-back singles. Senior right fielder Peter Bregartner ripped a two-run triple to tie the game. After a strikeout, sophomore third baseman Jordon Smucker hit a grounder to first and Bregartner broke for home but was thrown out attempting to score the go-ahead run.

The Lobos, who played in the NCAA tournament last spring, scored the winning run in the eighth. With one out, New Mexico put a runner on first when BU committed its third error of the game. An RBI double down the left field line scored the fifth and deciding run.

Sophomore starter Joe Swindells went 5.0 innings and scattered eight hits and three earned runs. Swindells struck out three and walked one. Senior reliever Zach Juliano tossed 3.0 innings of three-hit ball and didn't allow an earned run. Juliano struck out three and walked one. He owns a team-best 2.08 ERA this spring.

Nevares went 3-for-3 and Beresziewicz went 3-for-5 with an RBI out of the leadoff spot.

The Bearcats head to Las Cruces for a four-game set at New Mexico State. The first game is at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
