Binghamton baseball defeated by New Orleans 14-4 in series finale

NEW ORLEANS, La. - University of New Orleans (26-26) stretched a 4-2 lead with six runs in the fifth inning and went on to a 14-4 victory over visiting Binghamton (25-20-1) Sunday afternoon at Maestri Field. The Bearcats were limited to four hits over nine innings while UNO scored runs in six of its eight innings.

Junior first baseman Brendon Hitchcock (Laceyville, Pa.), junior shorstop Justin Smucker (Bird-in-Hand, Pa.) and sophomore third baseman Ryan James (Wading River, N.Y.) each went 1-for-3 with an RBI. James hit a solo home run - the first of his career - in the seventh inning. Smucker collected an RBI single in the fifth inning and Hitchcock followed with an RBI double in the sixth. Hitchcock had six hits (6-for-13) and four RBI in the three-game set.

Binghamton begins a crucial four-game home conference set against Albany on May 19 with a bid to the America East championship on the line.
