Release: February 29, 2008 LEXINGTON, Va. VMI (2-2) scored five unearned runs in the second inning and went on to post a 11-4 series-opening victory over visiting Binghamton (1-3) on Friday afternoon at Gray-Minor Stadium. The
host Keydets sent ten men to the plate against Yannuzzi in the
second frame. A fielding error at shortstop opened the door for
the VMI offense, which capitalized with five runs on four two-out
hits, highlghted by a three-run shot to left by shortstop Kevin
Barefoot. For the BU offense, junior first baseman Ryan Holley (Frankfort, Ill.) led the way with two RBI while sophomore left fielder Joe Charron (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) finished the day 3-for-4. Binghamton
cut the deficit to 5-1 in the fourth inning on a RBI groundout
by Holley, but VMI plated four runs in the bottom half of the
inning to take a commanding 9-1 lead. The two teams close out their series on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader, slated for 1 p.m. |
