LEXINGTON, Va. - Virginia Military Academy (13-7) scored three runs in the third inning and two more in the fifth inning en route to a 6-2 victory over visiting Binghamton (4-6) Saturday afternoon. The Keydets received a strong pitching performance from Richard Litwin, who scattered five hits over six innings. Litwin struck out five, while surrendering single BU runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Senior right fielder T.J. Kowalchuk (Stormville, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the sixth inning. Junior first baseman Jamie Boyer (Lancaster, Pa.) drove in Binghamton's other run with an RBI double in the fifth inning. Junior catcher Chris Darling (Whitesboro, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Starter J.D. Brink (Matamoras, Pa.) took the loss after allowing five earned runs on eight hits before being lifted in the seventh inning. Junior Tom Gaube (Vestal, N.Y.) pitched 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief.
The teams will conclude their three-game series with a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
