For Immediate
Release: March 25, 2008 WICHITA, Kan. Eleventh-ranked Wichita State (15-3) plated nine runs in the first two innings and went on to defeat visiting Binghamton (5-12) 9-2 Tuesday night at Eck Stadium. After surrendering five runs in the first inning and four in the second, BU pitchers shut down the potent Shockers, allowing just three hits over the final six innings. The Bearcats wound up outscoring the Shockers 2-0 during that span, but the deficit was too large. Freshman right fielder Peter Bregartner (East Islip, N.Y.) collected two of Binghamton's four hits and scored BU's first run in the fourth inning. Bregartner led off with a single and later scored on an RBI groundout by junior shorstop Kyle Klee (Rochester, N.Y.). The Bearcats then scored an unearned run in the ninth inning. Freshman Morgan Smith (Clifton Park, N.Y.) relieved his brother Murphy, and pitched three scoreless innings of relief. Sophomore Matt Simone (Schenectady, N.Y.) struck out two of the three batters he faced in a 1-2-3 eighth inning. The two teams conclude their abbreviated two-game set with a Wednesday night affair. The first pitch is slated for 8 p.m. NOTES |
