Release: March 26, 2008 WICHITA, Kan. Eleventh-ranked Wichita State (16-3) scored in six of the first seven innings and held off visiting Binghamton (5-13) 13-8 Wednesday night at Eck Stadium. Binghamton rapped 13 hits in its best offensive output of the five-game road trip. After the Bearcats took an early 1-0 lead, the host Shockers scored three times in the first inning and four more in the third to take control. After falling behind 11-2, however, BU scored six times in the last three innings, including four runs with two out in the ninth inning. Junior first baseman Ryan Holley (Frankfort, Ill) blasted a three-run home run in the ninth inning for his second home run of the season. Holley drilled a two-out, 0-2 pitch over the right field wall. He went 2-for-5. Freshman right fielder Peter Bregartner (East Islip, N.Y.) concluded a solid showing on the Kansas trip with a 3-for-4 performance. Bregartner added an RBI and a stolen base. He hit .421 (8-for-19) on the road trip. Sophomore second baseman Jeff Abrams (Rochester, N.Y.) also went 3-for-4. Senior third baseman Ryan James (Wading River, N.Y.) went 3-for-5 and junior shorstop Kyle Klee (Rochester, N.Y.) added two hits, two RBI and a stolen base. Binghamton next faces FDU in a four-game series beginning Friday in Teaneck, N.J. |
