AKRON, Ohio - Binghamton University golf shot a final-round 316 to drop to 11th place out of 17 teams at the FirstEnergy Intercollegiate, hosted by Akron at the Firestone Country Club. After the first 36 holes, BU was in fifth place. Eastern Kentucky won the tournament with an 868 total, followed by host Akron (869), Charlotte (872), Eastern Michigan (877) and Bowling Green State (887) to round out the top five. The Bearcats shot 297-294-316=907.
Junior Zach Vinal (Syracuse, N.Y.) tied for 30th out of 94 golfers (72-74-79=225). He recorded 11 birdies over the 54 holes - third most in the field. Senior Jeff Wolniewicz (West Seneca, N.Y.) shot 75-74-80=229 to tie for 46th place. Senior Aaron Ungvarsky (Wilmington, Mass.) shot 80-71-79=230 (T51st), sophomore J.J. Shearer (Binghamton, N.Y.) came in with a 73-75-83=231 (T59th) and senior Thomas Hackett (Binghamton, N.Y.) shot 77-79-78=234.
The Bearcats host the 36-hole America East Championship on May 5-6 at The Links at Hiawatha Landing.
