Golfer Katz ties for first at Philadelphia Big 5 Invitational
Sophomore fires pair of par-71s; Bearcats place eighth as team

Final Results

FLOURTOWN, Pa.– Sophomore Jake Katz shot 71-71=142 to tie for first place out of 78 golfers at the Philadelphia Big 5 Invitational, contested Saturday and Sunday at the 6,827-yard par-71 Wissahickon Course at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. The Bearcats placed eighth in the 15-team field after shooting 304-298=602.

Temple won the 36-hole event with a 587 total, followed by Seton Hall (588), William & Mary (589), Villanova (593) and Florida Golf Coast (595) in the top five.

Katz tied for top honors with Villanova's Brendan Kelly, who also shot 71-71. Kelly won medalist honors with a par on the first playoff hole. Katz recorded 24 pars and six birdies in his 36 holes. He played the par 5's in 3-under and played the par 4's at +3.

Junior Mike Corbo shot 74-75=149 to tie for 17th, junior Patrick Donovan shot 82-74=156, senior JJ Shearer came in at 159 (81-78) and sophomore Andrew Marler carded rounds of 78-85=163.

The Bearcats next compete at the Cornell Invitational next Sunday.
