ENDICOTT, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure shot 295-304=599 to capture the 11-team Binghamton University Invitational at En-Joie Golf Course on Sunday. The Bonnies edged runner-up Binghamton (300-307=607) by eight strokes. Colgate (617), Siena (619) and Fordham (627) rounded out the top five. St. Bonaventure also had two of the top three individuals, headed by sophomore medalist Jay Lindell (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern), who carded 71-71=144 to win by four strokes over BU freshman Chris McLaughlin (Northport, N.Y.). McLaughlin, who played as an individual, shot 75-73=148. St. Bonaventure freshman Josh Anderson (Kane, Pa.) shot 71-78=149 to finish third. Binghamton senior captain Adam Fuchs (Plainview, N.Y.) shot 72-78=150 to tie for fourth place. He now has finished among the top-10 in 17 consecutive tournaments dating back to fall 2001. Colgate senior Jesse Smith (Barrington, N.H./Northfield-Mt. Herman), who led after the opening round, shot 70-80 to tie for fourth place. Binghamton's two rounds were only the second and third team scores not below 300 this fall. The Bearcats had averaged just over 295 entering the home tournament. On Monday, the Bearcats will head to Scarsdale, N.Y., to prepare for The Tillinghast , a 36-hole tournament hosted by St. John's Tuesday and Wednesday. The elite tournament, won last year by eventual NCAA champion Minnesota, will be a 14-team event featuring the nation's fifth-ranked program, UC-Irvine, along with San Diego, James Madison and Rollins. The event will conclude BU's fall season, which has produced a record five team titles. ## |
