Immediate Release: October 1, 2006 HANOVER, N.H. - Binghamton University golf wrapped up its first tournament title of the 2006-07 season on Sunday, capturing the Dartmouth Invitational in a heavy downpour by 12 strokes. The Bearcats shot a final-round 308 at the par-71 Hanover Country Club to defeat runnerup Central Connecticut State (608) and the rest of the 12-team field. Dartmouth (610), Sacred Heart (620) and Quinnipiac (623) rounded out the top five. Binghamton afforded itself a comfortable cushion with an opening-round 288 on Saturday. The entire five-man team finished among the top 15 individually. Senior Jeff Wolniewicz (West Seneca, N.Y.) shot 67-78=145 to tie for second place. Junior J.J. Shearer (Binghamton, N.Y.) placed fourth (74-74=148), senior Thomas Hackett (Binghamton, N.Y.) was sixth (74-77=151), senior Aaron Ungvarsky (Wilmington, Mass.) tied for seventh (73-79=152) and junior Zach Vinal (Syracuse, N.Y.) tied for 13th place (74-80=154). Playing as an individual, junior Ryan Gabel (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) tied for seventh (78-74=152). Sophomore Brian Golkiewicz (Painted Post, N.Y.) also competed and shot 84-80=164. The Bearcats next compete at the Yale MacDonald Cup on October 7-8. |
