Fuchs honored as Long Island Golf Association Player of Year

Senior Adam Fuchs (Plainview, N.Y./JFK-Plainview) has been selected as the 2002 Long Island Golf Association Player of the Year. Fuchs, whose stellar collegiate career has included 10 individual championships, an America East title, all-region honors and scholar-athlete recognition, will be honored at the May 19 LIGA Presidents Invitational meeting. The LIGA, established in 1962, is an organization of 74 private and public clubs, and conducts 14 championships annually.

The prestigious award is presented annually to the amateur player from a member club who has played the best in select tournaments. The events are sponsored by the LIGA and other golf associations and are included in the point system program. The award is also based on standards of temperament, demeanor and attitude.

Fuchs had several outstanding performances during the 2002 summer season. He was the low amateur while placing fourth at the Long Island Open Championship. He also captured the LIGA Public Links crown on the Bethpage State Park Black Course, and was also the low amateur at the Met Open. Fuchs placed third at the LIGA Amateur Stroke Play Championship, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the LIGA Amateur Championship. He was a close runner-up in the LIGA Player of the Year points system.

Fuchs plays out of the Hamlet Windwatch Golf Club.
