PISCATAWAY, N.J. Binghamton golf opened its spring season by tying for ninth out of 22 teams at the George Washington Invitational, contested Friday and Saturday at the Bear Trap Dunes Golf Course. The Bearcats shot 314-308=622 on the 6,843-yard par-72 course. Rhode Island won the event at 601, followed by Longwood (605), Penn (606), Skidmore (609) and Delaware (611) in the top five.
Sophomore Andrew Marler was BU's low man after shooting 76-75=151. He tied for 12th place among 117 golfers, five shots behind medalist Justin Martinson of Delaware (71-74=145).
Sophomore Jake Katz shot 79-77=156 to tie for 36th, junior Patrick Donovan dropped 16 strokes off his opening round with a 1-under 71 on Saturday, and tied for 43rd (87-71). Junior Mike Corbo (79-86) and senior JJ Shearer (80-85) completed the scoring.
The Bearcats compete at the George Mason Invitational and Shootout next Monday and Tuesday.
