Sophomore-to-be opens summer schedule with tournament win

VESTAL, N.Y.– After recording a solid freshman season at Binghamton University, golfer Jake Katz (Williamsville, N.Y.) opened his summer schedule in fine fashion, capturing the Buffalo District Golf Association's 9th Annual Men's Match Play Championship on May 29-30.

Katz, the tournament's fifth seed, won four matches at Lancaster Country Club, including a 1-up win over Chris Covelli in the championship match.

Katz earned a starting spot in the Bearcats' lineup this year and posted a scoring average of 76.8 in 10 tournaments. He was BU's top finisher at the prestigious Yale MacDonald Cup and finished 14th at the inaugural America Sky Championship.
