BU golf standout Katz is America Sky Scholar-Athlete of Year
Six Bearcats earn selection to All-Academic Team

VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton golfer Jake Katz capped his outstanding junior season with the highest academic honors in the America Sky Conference. Katz, already the conference's Player of the Year, was also selected as the league's Scholar-Athlete of the Year after maintaining a 3.49 cumulative GPA in chemistry.

Joining Katz on the All-Academic Team were graduate student Patrick Donovan, juniors Michael Lemp and Andrew Marler and freshman Ryan Prinzo.

Katz set a new school-record with his 73.6 scoring average in 11 tournaments for the Bearcats. He placed in the top-5 in seven events, including five runnerup finishes.

The golf team, coached by Bernie Herceg, maintained a 3.14 team GPA for the spring semester. The Bearcats won three tournaments in 2009-10 - the Cornell and Lafayette Invitationals and the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate.
