Binghamton golf slips to seventh at Lafayette Invitational
Bearcats struggle to final-round 314, drop five spots in standings

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Defending tournament champion Binghamton shot a season-worst 314 in Sunday's final round, falling five spots to seventh place at the 23-team Lafayette Invitational, played at the at the 6,916-yard Center Valley Golf Club. The Bearcats wound up with 301-314=615, which was 20 strokes behind team champion American University (595). St. Bonaventure (601), Niagara (606), Siena (606), Robert Morris (611) and Delaware (612) were ahead of Binghamton. Bucknell (616), Lafayette (621) and Duquesne (623) rounded out the top 10.

No BU player scored better than a six-over-par 77 in Sunday's round. Sophomore Jeff Wolniewicz (West Seneca, N.Y.) was the team's low man for the tournament with rounds of 72-77=149. Junior Casey Wheet (Elmira, N.Y.) also shot a 77, and finished at 161 (84-77). Sophomore Aaron Ungvarsky (Wilmington, Mass.) went 74-79=153. Freshman Ryan Gabel (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), playing as an individual, shot 79-75=154.

For the second straight tournament, the Bearcats are playing without talented freshman Zach Vinal (Syracuse, N.Y.) - the team's low man at the spring-opening River City Classic in New Orleans. He is recovering from surgery.

Binghamton next plays in the two-day Navy Invitational on April 16-17.
