Longtime assistant Lasky named head golf coach

Binghamton University has named Nick Lasky as its new golf coach for the 2003-04 year. Lasky served eight years as an assistant to retiring head coach John Affleck, and has played a key role in the program’s national success during that span.

“Nick has been rock solid in his role with the golf team over the past eight years, and we have every confidence he will carry on the great tradition of achievement that John (Affleck) has so ably started,” Athletic Director Joel Thirer said.

A Binghamton graduate himself, Lasky has served as an invaluable resource for the present-day student-athletes, and his mentoring skills and academic support have helped inspire dozens of athletes to scholastic success.

Lasky traveled with the team to NCAA championships from 1995-99 and 2003, and has helped produce three All-Americans and 18 all-region players during that stretch. He played a pivotal role during the past year, as the coaching transition began. The 2002-03 team won more invitationals (7) than any other Division I team in the entire country, and received the school’s first-ever NCAA Division I Championship at-large berth.

In addition to on-course and range practice, Lasky has been responsible for equipment purchasing, travel arrangements, fundraising and recruiting. He has also taught golf and bowling classes at Binghamton for five years.

A native of Vestal, Lasky received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University in 1979.
