Immediate Release: April 14, 2007 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Binghamton University golf shot an opening-round 304 to place fifth out of 17 teams at the New England Championship. Sunday's final round was cancelled due to inclement weather. Sacred Heart shot 296 to lead the field. Central Connecticut State (301), Yale (301), Army (303) and defending champion Binghamton rounded out the top five. The 36-hole tournament was contested at the par-72 Triggs Memorial Golf Course. Senior Jeff Wolniewicz (West Seneca, N.Y.) and sophomore J.J. Shearer (Binghamton, N.Y.) shot matching 3-over-par 75s to tie for 11th out of 85. Junior Zach Vinal (Syracuse, N.Y.) and senior Aaron Ungvarsky (Wilmington, Mass.) each shot 77 and junior Ryan Gabel (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) came in at 80. Binghamton next heads to Ohio for the FirstEnergy Intercollegiate Invitational on April 28-29. |
