PROVIDENCE, R.I. Binghamton golf held its position in the final round of the New England Championship, finishing second to Yale in the 13-team field. The Bearcats shot a final-round 295 to total 587 strokes (292-295), four behind the Bulldogs (290-293=583). Sacred Heart was third at 596, followed by Harvard (598) and Dartmouth (606) in the top five. The 36-hole tournament was held Saturday and Sunday at the par-72, 6,595-yard Triggs Golf Course.
Senior Ryan Gabel (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) carded a final-round two-under 70 to tie for fourth place out fo 64 individuals (74-70=144). Senior Zach Vinal (Syracuse, N.Y.) shot 72-75=147 to tie for eighth place. Freshman Jake Katz (Williamsville, N.Y.) tied for 10th (74-75=149) and sophomores Patrick Donovan (Oswego, N.Y.) (72-78=150) and Mike Corbo (Mendham, N.J.) (75-75=150) tied for 15th.
The Bearcats conclude their spring season next weekend at the Penn State Rutherford Invitational.
