BRASELTON, Ga. Binghamton golf opened its spring season with a 13th-place showing at the Larry Nelson Collegiate Invitational, played Monday and Tuesday at the par 71 Woodlands Course. Host Kennesaw State won the 14-school event with a 54-hole total of 878 (+26). The Bearcats shot 321-320-310=951 (+99).
Sophomore Patrick Donovan (Oswego, N.Y.) tied for seventh out of 70 golfers after shooting 74-74-73=221 (+8). Donovan racked up eight birdies and 33 pars in the tournament.
Senior Zach Vinal (Syracuse, N.Y.) placed 16th (78-75-74=227), sophomore Mike Corbo (Mendham, N.J.) and freshman Jake Katz (Williamsville, N.Y.) tied for 66th at 255. Corbo shot 84-88-83 and Katz recorded rounds of 85-90-80. Senior Ryan Gabel (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) was 68th after shooting 87-83-87. Gabel had six birdies in the tournament.
Binghamton next competes at the Yale Invitational on April 5-6.
