BU golfer Shearer captures Collegiate Players Tour event at Saratoga
Senior-to-be fires second-round 65 and wins by three strokes

VESTAL, N.Y.– Binghamton University golfer J.J. Shearer (Binghamton, N.Y.) fired a sizzling 7-under 65 in the second round and went on to a three-stroke victory in the Collegiate Players Tour Saratoga Spa Open, June 9-11.

Shearer shot 76-65-73=214 to top the field at the 6,709-yard Saratoga course. The event was the fourth of 12 tournaments across the country on the summer tour, now in its 15th year.

Shearer has a history of outstanding summer play, having qualified for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship and New York State Amateur Championship last summer.

Over the weekend, he also captured the club championship at home course Genegantslet, firing 70-73-73.
