WESTOVER, Md. - Binghamton eased into its spring season at the Towson Drew Upton Memorial Classic, tying for 11th place out of 19 teams after shooting 294-303-300=897. At the 7,047-yard par-72 Great Hope Golf Course, the Bearcats finished two shots behind District I rival Army and 30 shots behind tournament winner Liberty.
Individually, senior Keith Hendrickson (Syosset, N.Y.) finished strong, firing a career-low 4-under 68 in Sunday's final round to tie for seventh place among 99 individuals. Hendrickson carded six birdies and was the lone man in the field to shoot in the 60s on Sunday. He also tied the school record for lowest single round (relative to par), shared by Adam Fuchs, Robb Gibb and Chris Sladish. His three rounds of 74-73-68=215 broke the 54-hole school record total previously held by former teammate Fuchs. Hendrickson, who led the entire Northeast Region in scoring in the fall, lowered his scoring average to 73.1.
Senior Joe Kunz (Webster, N.Y.) was the only other BU golfer to finish in the top half of the field after carding 74-74-79=227. He tied for 45th place. Sophomore Kevin Crawford (Lockport, N.Y.) shot 72-77-79=228, senior Eric Vinal (Syracuse, N.Y.) went 74-79-77=230, freshman Jeff Wolniewicz (West Seneca, N.Y.) recorded rounds of 78-80-76=234.
