Golf team inks New York standout

The Binghamton golf team has received a national letter of intent from Jeff Wolniewicz (West Seneca, N.Y.), a three-year team captain at West Seneca High School. He will join the Bearcats for his freshman season in September.

Wolniewicz finished ninth at the New York State Championships in his senior year. He was named his team’s MVP his junior and senior year and was a 2002 Porter Cup qualifier. At age 16, he was the youngest qualifier for last year’s Porter Cup, which is one of the most prestigious amatuer tournaments in the world.

“I am very happy that Jeff has selected Binghamton,” coach Nick Lasky said. “With his extensive state, regional, and national tournament success, Jeff is one of the best high school seniors in New York State. He has a cool, calm demeanor on the course which should serve him well during his four years here at Binghamton.”
