Binghamton golfer Wolniewicz named America East Performer of Week

VESTAL, N.Y. - Sophomore golfer Jeff Wolniewicz (West Seneca, N.Y.) has been named the America East Men's Golf Performer of the Week, the conference announced today. He is the first recipient of the weekly award, which will continue throughout the spring season.

Binghamton's No. 1 man, Wolniewicz was runnerup out of 99 golfers at the Drew Upton Towson Classic over the weekend. He fired rounds of 74-72 (+2) at the 7,005-yard Great Hope Golf Course in Westover, Md., finishing his final round with back-to-back birdies. For the 36-hole tournament, Wolniewicz recorded six birdies.

Back in the fall, Wolniewicz held down a 73.1 scoring average - the lowest average in the entire New England region. For the season, he has placed among the top-10 in seven of eight tournaments, including earning medallist honors at the Yale MacDonald Cup. At that event, Wolniewicz fired a final-round 66 to claim the championship and carry Binghamton to the team title as well.

The Bearcats are aiming for the program's third consecutive NCAA at-large berth later this spring.

Binghamton next plays in the Lafayette Invitational on April 8-9 at Center Valley Country Club (Pa.).
