The America East Conference has released its preseason basketball polls and Binghamton’s men’s and women’s basketball teams have been picked to finish sixth and seventh in the conference respectively. The results, which were voted on by the head coaches, picked Boston’s men’s team and Vermont’s women’s team to finish first.

Also released today was the preseason all-conference teams. The men’s preseason all-conference squad consists of Boston’s Chaz Carr and Billy Collins, Vermont’s T.J. Sorrentine and Taylor Coppenrath, as well as Maine’s Justin Rowe. The women’s team features Vermont’s Morgan Hall and Aaron Yantzi, Stony Brook’s Sherry Jordan, Maine’s Heather Ernest and Boston’s Katie Terhune.

Last season, the Binghamton men’s team was picked to finish last out of nine teams but instead, it finished in sixth place. The women’s team, meanwhile, was picked to finish seventh last season but shocked everyone by tying for second place. This season, both squads are seeking to once again exceed the preseason rankings.

The men’s team, which opened its preseason with an 89-70 win over Upstate AAU on Sunday, concludes its exhibition slate with a 1 p.m. game against Bloomsburg this Sunday at West Gym. The Bearcats will then open their 2002-03 campaign with a home game against Lafayette on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m.

The women’s team tips off its 2002-03 season at the Morehead State Tournament on Friday, Nov. 22, when it faces Eastern Kentucky at 5 p.m. The following night, the Bearcats sqaure off against the host team at 7 p.m.
