Bearcats dominant inside in 76-59 win at Albany

Box Score

ALBANY - Binghamton (13-11, 8-6 AE) shot a season-high 53% and used a 10-0 run late to pull away from host Albany (7-17, 3-10 AE) in an America East game Thursday night. With the victory, the Bearcats moved into sole possession of third place in the league with two games remaining. Binghamton also completed the season sweep of its SUNY rival for the second straight year.

"The second half was as good a half as we've played," BU coach Al Walker said. "We did a great job on the glass, and did an excellent job moving the ball and also taking care of it. We needed to win this game on the road and get the monkey off our back."

The Bearcats have struggled away from West Gym in the last two seasons. Tonight's win was just the third in the last 18 away games.

Sophomore seven-foot center Nick Billings (Kodiak, Alaska) recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, as Binghamton used its considerable size advantage to wear down the Great Danes inside. The Bearcats led 55-51 with 11:56 remaining, when Billings converted a layup and a dunk on back-to-back possessions, keying a 17-4 run that put the game out of reach.

Binghamton shot 55% in the second half, and limited Albany to just 25% shooting (7-of-28). Great Danes' leading scorer Jamar Wilson scored a game-high 20 points, but was held scoreless for the game's final 14:30.

Senior forward Jeffrey St. Fort (Miami, Fla./Monsignor Pace) scored 16 points to move into sixth place on BU's all-time scoring list with 1,302 career points. Senior guard Anthony Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown) and freshman forward Sebastian Hermenier (Rockville, Md./Maret School) each added 12 points. Green also added eight assists.

Binghamton next hosts Northeastern Sunday at noon in the America East TV Game of the Week. The Bearcats are 9-2 at home this season.
