Seven-foot sophomore center Nick Billings (Kodiak, Alaska) is the America East Player of the Week for the period of February 17-23, the conference announced on Monday. Billings helped the Bearcats to wins over Albany and Northeastern, and sole possession of third place heading into the final week of conference play.
Billings matched a career high with 19 points against Albany on February 20. He made a career-high nine field goals (9-of-13 from the field), and also grabbed 10 rebounds in posting his fourth career double-double. He also blocked four shots. Against Northeastern in the America East TV Game of the Week, Billings had 12 points, 10 blocks and eight rebounds. He averaged 15.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 7.0 blocks for the week.
Billings, who holds the school record for blocks in a game, season and career, is currently second in the nation in blocked shots, with 4.44 per game. He has been particularly impressive over his last seven games, averaging 14.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 5.71 blocks in that span, while scoring in double figures in each of the seven games.
