VESTAL, N.Y.--Binghamton University basketball teams and the American Cancer Society will join forces to fight cancer during Coaches vs. Cancer weekend, February 16-17. At both the women's game at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 16, against UMBC and the men's game at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 17, against Maine, there will be several fundraisers designed to raise money for the American Cancer Society (ACS).

Fans can take a shot at a mini-hoop to win prizes and a 50/50 raffle will be held at each game. Attendees can also make a pledge based on the number of points the Bearcats score during the game or make a monetary donation to ACS. Other activities include a free body mass index (BMI) screening and a tobacco education/lung machine demonstration, information on physical activity and nutrition, a prostate cancer support group and general health will be available.

"Having the Binghamton University student-athletes, coaches, and fans join forces with the American Cancer Society empowers the youth of our community to lead a healthy lifestyle," said ACS Director of Special Events Gina Chapman. "Being physically active at any age is helping to prevent cancer."

The Decker School of Nursing at Binghamton University, Lourdes Hospital and United Health Services will sponsor both games.

Coaches vs. Cancer® is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The initiative leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of basketball coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities and advocacy programs. Coaches vs. Cancer provides critical mission outreach, while raising funds in support of the Society's lifesaving cancer research, education, advocacy, and community service efforts. The program has raised more than $25 million since its inception in 1993 to benefit the Society's missions.
