BU men's basketball lands 6-foot-9 freshman center Sutton

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton men's basketball coach Kevin Broadus has secured a talented big man to complete his recruiting class for the 2008-09 season. Six-foot-9, 240-pound freshman Kyrie (pronounced KIGH-ree) Sutton (Brooklyn, N.Y./Boys & Girls HS) signed a financial aid agreement and will join the Bearcats in the fall.

Sutton averaged 10.6 rebounds and 5.4 points for Boys & Girls High as a senior, helping the team reach the PSAL title game. He was ranked No. 28 among NYC seniors by

"Kyrie is a great addition to our program - especially late in the recruiting calendar," Broadus said. "He can be an impact player in a couple of years and I see him being a force to wrecken with in the America East. We're excited to have him join our program."

Sutton, who originally verbaled to St. Peter's, raised his profile with a strong showing at the Hoop Group Elite Camp in New Jersey in early July. He made the camp's senior all-star team, and subsequently drew interest from St. Bonaventure and Marist among other schools.

He is one of seven newcomers on Broadus' roster for the 2008-09 season.
