Since elevating
to the Division I level, the Binghamton men's basketball team
has provided more than its share of thrills. Thanks to an uncanny
ability to perform in pressure situations, Binghamton point guard
Mike
Gordon
finds himself at the center of all the excitement. With the Plainfield,
New Jersey native leading the way for the Bearcats, late-game
heroics have quickly become the standard. |

Sophomore guard makes steal, game-winning layup in final second
Gordon stole the ball at the top of the key and raced the entire
length of the court for the game-winning layup with one-tenth
of a second left to lift Binghamton past Hartford 57-55. With
the Hawks setting up for a potential game-winning play in the
closing eight seconds, Gordon scooped up a deflected inbounds
pass and drove the length of the floor before laying in the winning
basket.
"Troy deflected it and it came to me. I pushed it
up the floor and was lucky to get it off before time expired."

Déjà vu: Bearcats' guard hits winning shot for
second straight year
After a Binghamton timeout with six ticks left, Gordon got the
ball and drove down the right side of the lane before lofting
his familiar high-bank shot. The ball rattled around the rim
before falling as the horn expired giving the Bearcats a 57-55
victory over Hartford. Remarkably, his final-second heroics were
an exact repeat of last January 19, when his buzzer-beating layup
stunned the Hawks by the same score on the same court.
"I don't know what to say -- same thing, different
year. Guys were a little tired, and we didn't want to go to overtime."
- MG
"That's incredible, isn't it? The same exact score with
Mike Gordon hitting a layup at the buzzer." - Head coach
Al Walker |

Gordon Puts Bearcats Back on Track
Three years to the day after Binghamton opened its state-of-the-art
arena, Gordon electrified a crowd of 3,121 against Stony Brook
with his late-game wizardry. Gordon beat the Seawolves in improbable
fashion, banking an inbounds pass off a Stony Brook defender
and converting the game-winning layup as the buzzer sounded.
The shot, featured on ESPN's "Top 10 Plays" (No.
6), was Gordon's second buzzer-beating game-winning shot
in the previous five games and third in his career.
"With point-six seconds and no timeouts, you've got
to think of something quick." - MG
"Where else could he have gone with it? When he did it,
my mouth just dropped." - Senior Guard Steve Proctor
"The play was one of the coolest, most creative in the
three-year history of the Events Center." - Press & Sun-Bulletin

Gordon's three-pointer beats Hartford for third time in last
four games
After trailing by as many as 10 points in the second half, Hartford
rallied to take a 53-50 lead with 1:28 remaining. Binghamton
made one free throw with 1:01 left and after a Hawks turnover
at the other end, Gordon stroked his 100th career three-pointer
from the top of the key. He proceeded to sink a free throw with
one second to lift Binghamton to the 55-53. It was his third
game-winning shot this season and third against Hartford in the
last four meetings between the two schools.
"Coming down the stretch, you've got to have confidence
and you've got to want to take the shot. If the ball is in my
hands, I'm going to rise up, shoot the ball and knock it down
with confidence." - MG
"Mike Gordon seems to have our number, at least in the
last minute. I think he's the best point guard in our conference,
so I'm not surprised that he continues to make big plays for
this team." - Hartford coach Dan Leibovitz |
