BU men's basketball ranked No. 24 in CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll

First-ever national ranking for Bearcats

CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton University men's basketball has cracked the national rankings for the first time in school history. The Bearcats (22-8) are ranked No. 24 in this week's CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll. The poll is comprised of teams from 21 conferences plus independents. Gonzaga (West Coast Conference ) and Butler (Horizon League) are the top two teams in the poll. Other top conferences eligible include the Missouri Valley, Colonial and MAAC.

The Bearcats, regular season co-champions, will host UMBC in the America East championship game at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Events Center. Binghamton, winners of a school-record 10 straight games (fourth longest current streak in nation), is 11-2 at home this season. A sellout crowd is expected for the game, which will be televised live on ESPN2, preceding an ACC semifinal game. Binghamton sold out its last two regular season games (5,222) and led the league in attendance for the sixth consecutive year.

Head coach Kevin Broadus, the America East Coach of the Year, has orchestrated an eight-game improvement from last season. He had to replace three starters and two all-conference performers, and mesh a team filled with newcomers in 2008-09. Binghamton was picked to finish fifth in the America East Coaches' Preseason poll.
