VESTAL, N.Y. -- Junior guard D.J. Rivera, the leading scorer in the America East (21.1 ppg.), has been named the conference's Player of the Week for December 22-30 after leading the Bearcats to a pair of impressive victories. It's the second time this season Rivera has been honored.
Rivera opened the week with a double-double in BU's 69-58 win over Rider. He produced 22 points and 10 rebounds and keyed a big second-half run that helped the Bearcats put away the visiting Broncs.
In New Orleans on Saturday, Rivera scored 22 of his 24 points in the decisive second half as the Bearcats pinned a 74-73 loss on Conference USA member Tulane.
He now has scored 20 or more points in a school-record five straight games and in eight of 10 games as a Bearcat. Rivera ranks No. 1 in the conference in scoring, fifth in rebounding (6.9/game) and sixth in both field goal percentage (49%) and steals (1.6/game).
The last BU player to be honored twice as America East Player of the Week was Anthony Green, who earned the award three times during the 2002-03 season.
