VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton men's basketball junior guard D.J. Rivera has been recognized as one of the top players in the district. Rivera was selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches District 1 second team. District 1 is comprised of 19 teams from the America East and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Rivera, the leading scorer in the conference at 20.2 points per game, was among four America East players selected to the teams. He ranks 25th in the country in scoring and has established BU single-season school records for scoring average, points (565), field goals (202) and free throws (119) at the Division I level. He has scored in double figures in 27 of 28 games, and has eclipsed the 20-point mark in 19 games. In the conference, Rivera also ranks fifth in steals (1.8/game), seventh in field goal percentage (48%) and eighth in rebounds (6.4/game).
Binghamton opens tournament play with a quarterfinal game at 6 p.m. Saturday against either eight-seeded Maine or ninth-seeded Hartford.
