VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton men's basketball junior guard D.J. Rivera has been selected to the Foxsports.com Mid-Major All-America Team by senior writer Jeff Goodman. Rivera joins four other players from non-BCS conferences on the team. He was the only player from the America East to be honored.
Rivera, the leading scorer in the conference during the regular season (20.2 points per game), ranks 23rd in the country in scoring and has established BU single-season school records for scoring average, points (603), field goals (214) and free throws (130) at the Division I level. He has scored in double figures in 29 of 30 games, and has eclipsed the 20-point mark in 20 games.
Last week he was selected to the NABC All-District team - the first time a BU player has earned the distinction at the Division I level.
Binghamton (22-8) hosts UMBC in the America East championship game at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Events Center. The game is being broadcast live on ESPN2. The winner will advance to the NCAA Tournament. The Bearcats have won 10 consecutive games, the third-longest current streak in the country.
