|Sears hired as assistant mens basketball coach|
The Binghamton mens basketball program has announced the hiring of Marlon Sears as an assistant basketball coach. He joins a staff that is led by third-year head coach Al Walker and also includes associate head coach Lawrence Brenneman and assistant coach Johnny Brown
This is the first coaching position for Sears, who has spent the past two years playing basketball overseas. This past year, he competed in the Pro B League in France and during the 2000-01 season, he was in the Leb 1 League in France.
Sears is a 2001 graduate of Newman University in Wichita, Kansas. In his senior season (1999-00), he was a NAIA second-team All-American at the guard position. Prior to his senior year at Newman, Sears played two years at Seward Community College, where Brenneman was the head coach. In his second season at Seward, he helped lead the squad to a 35-3 record and a third place finish in the NJCAA Tournament. Sears spent his junior year at Western Illinois University.
"Marlon is a tremendously talented young coach who is both charismatic and hard-working, said Walker. He has a bright future in the collegiate coaching profession, and is a great addition to our staff."
NOTES: The Binghamton athletic department has elevated Brenneman, an assistant coach the past two seasons, to the position of associate head coach. Rich Conover, an assistant coach on the womens basketball teams staff the past four seasons, has also been elevated to the position of associate head coach.
