Binghamton men's lacrosse 2007 schedule includes games at Syracuse and Virginia

VESTAL, N.Y.-- A pair of top lacrosse powers highlight the Binghamton Bearcats' 2007 men's lacrosse schedule. The 13-game slate includes games at Syracuse on March 24 and at defending champion Virginia on April 3.

“We have once again produced a highly competitive schedule,” head coach Ed Stephenson said. “Our guys competed well last year with a comparable schedule, but we were not consistent. We will look to remedy that this year.”

Coached by John Desko, the Orangemen have won nine NCAA titles, the most recent of which came in 2004. The Cavaliers, meanwhile, went undefeated in 2006 and captured their fourth NCAA crown.

The game against Virginia marks the first time ever that the Bearcats will square off against the defending national champions in men's lacrosse. Earlier in the year, the men's soccer team traveled to defending champion Maryland on August 27.

Also appearing on the non-conference portion of the Bearcats' men's lacrosse schedule are games at Cornell on Feb. 25, Hobart on March 3, Drexel on March 6 and Colgate on April 10. Cornell and Hobart were both nationally ranked last season. At home, Binghamton hosts Marist on March 10 and Sacred Heart on March 17.

In America East play, Binghamton has road games against defending champion UMBC on April 14 and Stony Brook on April 21. Home conference games come against Hartford (March 31), Vermont (April 7) and Albany (April 28).

Starting times have yet to be announced.

Binghamton finished the 2006 campaign 7-8 but was nationally ranked early in the season. The Bearcats' key win was a March 4 upset of then No. 8 Towson.
