VESTAL, N.Y.-- Freshman attack Jake Boyce (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford) has been named the America East Conference Rookie of the Week. He is the second Bearcat player in as many weeks to earn the award.
Boyce scored four goals in Binghamton's two wins last week. He netted a career-high three goals in the Bearcats' 10-8 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday. Boyce has scored a goal in each of the Bearcats' five games. He has a team-high seven goals and ranks second with eight total points.
"Jake is really starting to feel confident with the offense we are running," head coach Ed Stephenson said. "He has been assertive and aggressive and has come up with some big goals."
Last week, fellow freshman attack Chris Mulheron (Canandaigua, N.Y.) earned the first America East Rookie of the Week award of 2006.
Binghamton (4-1) is nationally-ranked for the first time in its five-year program history. The Bearcats are No. 18 in the current Inside Lacrosse Top 20 poll. The USILA/STX Top 20 poll will be released late Monday afternoon."
"We don't get caught up in the rankings but we've earned where we are at with two wins over Top 20," Stephenson said. "It's early in the season and we are looking to improve each game."
