Brian Chaapel named America East Player of the Week
America East Release
Men's lacrosse player Brian Chaapel (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) has been named the America East co-Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Chaapel shared the honor with Kevin Rae of Albany. In Binghamton's only game during the previous week, Chaapel scored four goals in a 13-9 win over Quinnipiac. The win secured Binghamton's spot in next month's America East Championship. Chaapel ranks fourth on the team this season with 16 points and is tied for second with 13 goals. He has been on a tear in recent games, tallying eight goals and two assists in his past three games.
A Binghamton player has now received the America East Player of the Week in each of the past three weeks. Sophomore goalie Kevin McKeown (Brewster, N.Y.) earned the honor each of the previous two weeks. The Bearcats have won five straight games and are in first place atop the conference standings. BU takes on Siena this Tuesday before heading to Vermont for an important conference matchup on Saturday.
