Bearcats fall to Cornell 9-6
ITHACA, N.Y.--Sophomore attack Phil Cavallo (Cedarhurst, N.Y./Lawrence) recorded a hat trick for the third straight game, scoring three goals in Binghamton's (1-2) 9-6 loss to 11th-ranked Cornell (3-1) on Wednesday afternoon at Schoellkopf field.
The Big Red scored the game's first three goals in the opening seven minutes of the game, and led 5-1 at halftime. In the third quarter, Cavallo scored a pair of goals in a span of 45 seconds and freshman Matt McNamara (Oswego, N.Y.) scored with 5:21 remaining in the period to narrow the deficit to 5-4. Cornell, however, scored a goal just before time expired in the period, and added consecutive goals in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
Sophomore goalie Kevin McKeown (Brewster, N.Y.) made 12 saves for the Bearcats. McNamara wound up with two goals and an assist, and sophomore midfielder Brian Thomas (Ithaca, N.Y.) handed out two helpers.
Binghamton returns to action with a road game against Villanova on Saturday at 3 p.m.
