Binghamton men's lacrosse defeated by No. 6 Cornell 16-3
ITHACA, N.Y.--Junior attack David Mitchell netted a career-high eight goals, leading No. 6 Cornell to a 16-3 win in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. The game marked the season-opener for both squads.
Mitchell scored five of his goals during the Big Red's decisive nine-goal outburst in the second quarter. The Bearcats had kept the score to 4-1 after 15 minutes, but Cornell's scoring assault made the score 13-1 at the half.
"We have a young and enthusiastic team and we are going to get better as the season continues," head coach Ed Stephenson said. "Cornell is a great team and really pushed the ball in transition. We were a little too excited at the start of the game but we settled down and got recharged after the half."
For Binghamton, freshman attack Chris Mulheron (Canandaigua, N.Y.) led the squad with a goal and an assist. Fellow freshman attack Jake Boyce (Pittsford, N.Y.) and junior attack Rob Williams (Fulton, N.Y.) each added a goal.
Binghamton continues its season with a noon game at Towson next Saturday.
