Danieu named America East Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week

VESTAL, N.Y.-- Freshman defender Derrick Danieu (Orchard Park, N.Y.) has been named the America East Conference Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week. It marks the first time in his career that he has received a weekly accolade.

Danieu helped lead a Bearcat defense that limited No. 15 Drexel to three goals this past Saturday. It set a program record for the fewest goals allowed against a nationally-ranked opponent.

"Derrick was an integral part of a record-setting day for our defense," head coach Ed Stephenson said. "We knew in the fall that he was going to play a big role this season and he played very well on Saturday while covering Drexel's top attackman."

Drexel's sophomore midfielder Greg Casey opened the game's scoring on a wrap-around eight minutes into the game.

The Bearcats (0-1) head to Marist on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game.
