Binghamton men's lacrosse inks nine high school seniors
Individual recruit profiles
VESTAL, N.Y.--The Binghamton men's lacrosse team has announced the signing of nine high school seniors as part of the NCAA's early signing period. All nine players will begin their freshman seasons with the Bearcats in 2007.
Binghamton inked three players from the Albany region. Aaron Kennedy (Loudonville, N.Y.) and Griffin McLoughlin (Latham, N.Y) are both defenders from Shaker High School and Bobby McIver (Alamont, N.Y.) is an attackman from Guilderland High School. These are the first three players from the Albany region to sign with Binghamton.
From the Syracuse region, Binghamton also landed three players. Chris Welch (Skaneatles, N.Y.) is a midfielder at Skaneateles High School, Ben Watkins (Camillus, N.Y.) is a defender at West Genesee High School and Drew Wichmann (Syracuse, N.Y.) is a attackman/midfielder at Corcoran High School.
The Bearcats got a pair of players from the Rochester area. Danny Serafine (Cannandaigua, N.Y.) is a goalie from Canandaigua Academy and Steve Carlson (Penn Yan, N.Y.) is a midfielder from Penn Yan Academy.
Finally, Binghamton continues its strong recruiting from Beverly (Mass.) High School, with the addition of defender Brent Reed (Beverly, Mass.). Five of his former high school teammates (Jeff and Kevin Kaylor, Chris Bernard, Larry Kline and J.P. Wioncyk) are on this season's Binghamton squad.
Binghamton has now received a National Letter of Intent from 10 high school seniors during the early signing period. Earlier in the week, Andy Cook (Vestal, N.Y.), a high school senior from nearby Vestal High School, agreed to join the Bearcats.
"I can't be any happier with our recruiting class," head coach Ed Stephenson said. "We began this process looking for three things. One, we needed a second consecutive class of blue chip offensive players. Two, we needed to begin the reloading process on the defensive end. Finally, we needed another strong goalie. I think we have not only met our goals, but also exceeded them. This group will help us take the next step towards our goal of national prominence."
