Release: April 18, 2009 Binghamton men's lacrosse loses 14-9 at Stony Brook Box score Nursing a 2-1 lead after one quarter, the host Seawolves went on a 4-1 spurt in the second quarter to take a 6-2 halftime advantage. Belton scored twice during that span. Stony Brook broke the game open with four straight goals in the opening seven minutes of the third quarter. Belton, Crowley and McBride each scored once during the run. Binghamton responded by ripping off three straight goals to get to within 10-5 at the three minute mark of the third quarter. The Seawolves, however, got goals from McBride and Jared Leverne 13 seconds apart to take a 12-5 lead heading into the final period. The Bearcats outscored Stony Brook 4-2 in the fourth quarter but were unable to get to within four goals. Sophomore attack Frank Donlon recorded his first career hat trick and senior attack Chris Mulheron tied his career high with four assists. In addition, senior attack Jake Boyce netted a pair of goals, giving him 58 for his career. He is now tied with Rob Williams (2004-07) for second place all time in school history. Binghamton outshot Stony Brook
31-30 but won only nine of the 25 faceoffs. In addition, the
Seawolves held a 44-24 advantage in ground balls. |
