men's lacrosse loses 8-7 to UMBC in America East semifinals
BALTIMORE, MD.--Senior attack Ryan Smith netted a game-high four
goals, powering No. 6 UMBC (8-2, 2-0 AE) to a 13-4 win over Binghamton
(1-8, 0-2 AE) in an America East Conference men's lacrosse game
on Saturday night at UMBC Stadium. The game marked the fourth
straight setback for the Bearcats, who have faced three nationally-ranked
teams during that stretch.
Smith scored two of his goals in the opening quarter as the host
Retrievers built a 5-1 lead after 15 minutes of play. Both teams
scored twice in the second quarter but UMBC reeled off four unanswered
goals to start the third period to go up 11-3. From there, the
Retrievers scored two of the games final three goals.
UMBC outshot Binghamton 36-27, held a 36-28 edge in ground balls
and won 14 of 21 faceoffs.
Junior attack Chris Jones added two goals and an assist for the
Retrievers while fellow junior attack Matt Lathham also scored

Senior goalie Larry
Kline made 12 saves, marking the fourth straight game
he has reached double figures in stops.
Binghamton heads to No. 15 Colgate on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game.
