Binghamton men's lacrosse loses 12-6 to UMBC

VESTAL, N.Y.-- Rob Grimm had three goals and a pair of assists, leading UMBC (2-7, 1-1 AE) to a 12-6 win over Binghamton (3-8, 0-2 AE) in an America East Conference men's lacrosse game at the Bearcats Sports Complex on Saturday evening. The game marked the first of four straight conference contests for the Bearcats.

With the game tied at 2-2 after one quarter, the visiting Retrievers scored seven unanswered goals to go up 9-2 with 3:13 left in the third quarter. Grimm had a goal and an assist during that run.

The Bearcats countered with four straight goals, trimming the deficit to 9-6 with 12:45 left in regulation. Freshman attack Matt Springer and senior mdifielder Andy Cook each had a goal and an assist during that span. Both players finished with two goals and an assist for the game.

UMBC, however, slammed the door with three goals in a span of 2:15 to take a commanding 12-6 lead with 6:12 left in regulation. Grimm had his final goal and final assist during that decisive run.

Binghamton outshot UMBC 30-29 for the game. The Retrievers won 11 of the 21 faceoffs.

Binghamton hosts Stony Brook next Saturday at 7 p.m.
