Binghamton University men's soccer picked second in the America East Preseason Poll, the women in fourth

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton University men's and women's soccer teams have been picked to finish second and fourth, respectivelyc out of nine teams in the 2005 Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference announced on August 16.

The men's team finished the 2004 regular season in third place and were the runner-up in the America East Championship tournament to Boston U., who have been picked again carry the #1 seed in the AE Championship tournament. The Terriers received eight of the nine first place votes, the ninth belonged to the Bearcats. This season the Bearcats return seven starters and 18 letterwinners from last season's squad that finished 11-2-8, the team was ranked nationally in both the NSCAA/Adidas and College Soccer News polls for several weeks during the season.

The women's team, who held the #1 seed last season in route to winning the America East Championship tournament giving them the automatic bid to play in the NCAA College Cup were picked to finish fourth with one first place vote. Boston U. received four first place votes and 60 points becoming the favorite to carry the #1 seed into this years America East Championship tournament. Binghamton head coach Jeff Leightman's program, which went 14-6-1 last season will return seven starters and 18 letterwinners.

The men's soccer team opens their 2005 regular season on September 1 at 5 p.m. against Furman in the opening round of the Coastal Carolina/adidas Invitational, the women will open their 2005 season at Iona on August 26 at 2 p.m.
