VESTAL, N.Y.-- The America East Conference has released its men's soccer preseason poll and Binghamton has been picked to finished second. The voting was done by the conference's nine head coaches.

Defending champion Vermont, which defeated the Bearcats 1-0 in the 2007 championship game, ranked first with 60 total points. The Catamounts received five of the nine first-place votes. The Bearcats had 53 points and three of the remaining first-place votes.

Boston ranked third (51) followed by New Hampshire (38), which earned the other first-place vote. UMBC (35), Hartford (32), Stony Brook (29), Albany (17) and Maine (9) rounded out the list.

Binghamton returns nine starters from the 2007 squad that finished 14-6-0. In addition, eight seniors are on this year's roster.

The Bearcats have won two of the last five America East championships, have advanced to the past five conference title games and have captured the last two America East regular season titles.

On Aug. 29, Binghamton opens up its 2008 slate against Duquesne at 5 p.m. in the opening round of the West Virginia Invitational.
