Thank You

Without question, the most difficult entry of the men's soccer daily update to write is when the season comes to a sudden end. With tonight's 2-1 loss to UMBC in the America East quarterfinals, this is the update serves as the toughest of the year. Rather than talk about what might have been this coming week, however, now is a time to be thankful for all that the Binghamton men's soccer program represents.

Having a Blast

While the Binghamton Bearcats head towards postseason play, a former player is eight days away from opening his soccer season. Ryan Pierce (2004-05) is in his third season with the Baltimore Blast of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). His squad, which has won five of the last seven league titles, opens up its 2009-10 campaign against the Rockford Rampage on Nov. 13 at home.

A Look to the Future

There are a group of players on this year's squad who have yet to play in a game. Still, they each figure to play a significant role in the team's fortunes in 2010 and beyond. Several players are red shirting this season but head coach Paul Marco has high hopes for all of them.

Bearcats Supporting Bearcats

This past weekend, the men's soccer team's win over UMBC was only the third biggest story on campus. That didn't, however, bother the team one bit. In fact the men's soccer team played a role in supporting both the America East champion men's cross country team as well as the women's soccer team, which earned a trip to the conference title game with their thrilling shootout win over Maine this past Sunday.

Catching Up

Having been on the road for four of the last six days, I have a lot of catching up to do with the Daily Update and after this past weekend, there is a lot to talk about on campus. We'll get to the men's soccer scene in a moment but first things first--there is no better story right now at Binghamton than the men's cross country team winning their first-ever America East Championship on Saturday.
