MEN'S SOCCER
DAILY UPDATE October 2, 2009 Live From the Bearcats Sports Complex Since the Bearcats Sports Complex opened in September 2007, there have been three Binghamton athletic events that have been televised either regionally or nationally. Saturday's men's soccer game against Rhode Island marks the second television appearance for Paul Marco's squad. Here is a look back at the three previous contests that were televised: April 19, 2008 Men's Lacrosse vs. Stony Brook MSG Plus carried the Binghamton-Stony Brook men's lacrosse game on a regional level. The game certainly was worthy of being on TV, with five ties and three lead changes. In the end, however, the Seawolves won 7-6, with the game winner coming 15 seconds into the first sudden-death overtime period. [complete recap...] October 9, 2008 Women's Soccer vs. Boston Fox Soccer Channel was the first network to carry a nationally-televised event from the Bearcats Sports Complex. Although the Bearcats held their own, defending America East Champion Boston had too much firepower and went on to win 4-2. [complete recap...] October 18, 2008 Men's Soccer vs. Vermont Time Warner Sports televised the first sold-out event in the history of the Bearcats Sports Complex. Before 2,534 fans, Binghamton knocked off defending conference champion Vermont 1-0. It was a rematch of the 2007 America East finals. [complete recap...] On a Roll The Binghamton women's team made it four wins in five games with a 2-1 win at Albany on Thursday afternoon. On Sunday, the women have their Homecoming game at 1 p.m. against visiting Stony Brook. It will be a rematch of the 2008 America East semifinals [women's soccer home page...] Reading List Here is the Pipe Dream's recap of the past two men's soccer games as well as its look ahead to Saturday's match against Rhode Island [Niagara and Bucknell Recap...] [Rhode Island Preview...] Tailgate Update A few weeks ago, I compared the men's and women's soccer team's post-game tailgates and gave the women a very slight edge based on the homemade crab soup (thanks Robert Iman). This year, the men's soccer parents will be having a huge spread during the Homecoming Tailgate prior to the Rhode Island game. Last night, I received this e-mail from a parent (I won't say who) about what they have in store. Notice how they lead off the message: Looks like we are giving the women's team some TAILGATE competition!! We will have a full size grill to BBQ on, as well as burners to keep pots warm! Menu to date: New England clam chowder and bread, burgers and hot dogs, tortellini salad and meatballs, antipasto salad, chicken wings, chili, sandwich platter and Italian cookies, pasta salad and cheese and crackers, Country Ham Chowder, wrap platter, shrimp, apple crisp and pizza. Looking forward to a memorable day for the families, players, and our alumni! Posted October 2, 2009. 2:00 p.m. Feedback can be sent to dobrian@binghamton.edu. |
