Top Road Conference Wins

Since Binghamton began its run of success in 2003, there have been several pivotal conference wins on the road. Saturday's dramatic win at Vermont is a good reason to look back at the top Bearcat victories on enemy turf. Keep in mind that these are regular-season games only:

5. September 23, 2005. Binghamton 3, Vermont 2.

On a senior class loaded with star players, Luc Vallone wasn't exactly a household name. But on this day, he nearly single handedly rallied Binghamton to victory. This is easily the most wild America East road win ever for the Bearcats.

4. October 24, 2009: Binghamton 2, Vermont 1.

Given the dramatic ending, this game definitely makes the list. Whether or not it moves up any further depends on what happens the next few weeks.

3. October 18, 2006. Binghamton 1, Albany 0

Joey Neilson had yet to score a goal in his senior season and the frustration was clearly mounting for him. His goal in the 62nd minute against the Great Danes, however, was more than a personal breakthrough. It was the game winner and as a result, Binghamton took over first place in the America East.

2. October 15, 2003. Binghamton 1, Hartford 0

If ever there was a defining regular season game in the Bearcats' magical 2003 season, this was it. Binghamton had yet to win a conference road game in its Division I era. Stephen Bruce, however, scored in the 88th minute to lock up the win.

1. November 3, 2007: Binghamton 1, Stony Brook 0

The Bearcats needed a win at Stony Brook to claim their second consecutive America East regular season title. Playing in a steady downpour and 45 degree weather, Binghamton took care of business on a goal by Barry Neville in the 42nd minute.

Kudos to the BU Women

Everyone figured the Binghamton women would be improved this season, especially with a promising freshman class. But few people outside of the Bearcat locker room could have expected the squad to lock up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming America East Tournament. Yet that is precisely what happened as Binghamton won 1-0 at New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon.

This was a team that not only started off the season 0-3-0 but didn't even score a goal during that span. As was the case last season when her squad got hit by a rash of injuries, head coach Sarah McClellan never wavered, and the team responded by going 9-3-1 over the remainder of the season.

Last season, our office started to put McClellan on Roger Neel's WNBF morning radio show during the BU women's playoff run. This year, she has become a regular each week--so much so that tomorrow will be her second appearance the day after a win.

Next up for the Bearcats is a second-round home game next Sunday at the Bearcats Sports Complex. In the meantime, the all-conference teams will be announced this week. Here is hoping that the rest of the America East will know who has been its Coach of the Year.
